For the first time in its history, the Lotus Esprit Submarine Car from the James Bond 007 film The Spy Who Loved Me has gone up for auction, selling for a whopping £550,000 (approx. $863,830/€650,995) at the RM Auctions London Sale at the St James Concours of Elegance, London, on Sunday September 9.

The final price was a little under its £1million guide, but still a hefty amount for one of cinema's most iconic vehicles.

An unnamed telephone bidder eventually took home the prized piece, though there's good news for Bond fans everywhere: the car's sale has prompted some beautiful photography and lots more detail to emerge about the ride.
